Many people see vacations as a break from life, which means they also take a break from their smiles. However, this is a big mistake. If you are one of these people, it’s time to consider doing otherwise. It’s important to take good care of your smile, even while you’re traveling. To help you do so, Dr. Scott Ellard and our dental team are happy to give you some helpful tips and information.
First, scrub your chompers twice a day—every morning and every night. Do so with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. As you clean your smile, brush for at least two minutes each time and feel free to scrub your tongue afterward to eliminate bacteria and freshen your breath.
Second, floss your teeth at least once a day—after each time you eat if possible. Feel free to floss with a flossing product of your choice and scrape the sides of each tooth. As you floss, be gentle along the gumline.
Third, pack travel-sized oral hygiene tools with you. The smaller the brush, the better because it will only take a little bit of room in your suitcase. It’s also recommended to pack a toothbrush cover so you can keep the bristles away from germs and bacteria. When it comes to toothpaste, only pack paste that weighs about or less than 3.4 ounces. This is recommended because there is a weight limit for liquids boarding an aircraft. If you aren’t flying, you can pack a normal tube if you desire.
If you use our tips, you’ll be on the right track when it comes to keeping your smile in tip-top shape while you’re traveling.
